First of please introduce yourself and your site to our readers?
] My name is Scot Mentzer, the creator of www.theonepixel.com. I have several other sites that I created and still manage. Several of these sites are not-for-profit organizations that I host and maintain. I work for a non-for-profit organization in Philadelphia. I have a strong interest in non profit work, so I thought I would give 20% of what I make to several charities.
Most people have been inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage, where did you get your inspiration from?
I watched a news story on 12/31/2005 about Alex Tew's Million Dollar Homepage.
What software do you use to run your pixel page and why did you choose it?
I am using the Million Dollar Page Pixel Script which I purchased on ebay. I choose the software, because it is inexpensive and I am able to make basic php and html site changes using notepad.
What makes your site different or special, what angle have you taken for your Pixel page?
The idea is simple one: I will donate 20% of the proceeds to charity. Thus, for every $100 purchased, I will donate $20 to charity. The 20% will be divided equality between the following not-for-profit organizations: Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, The YMCA of Philadelphia & Vicinity’s Adult Education Program, The Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue, Inc., and the Endowment Fund of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.
The original pixel page generated traffic mainly through viral marketing mainly spawned by media interest, how do you generate traffic to your site?
In addition to viral Marketing, several other techniques are used: blogging, word of mouth, site linking, and in the future information on not-for-profit organizations.
What do you offer potential advertisers, how much do you charge and how much traffic do you envisage an advertiser could generate by advertising with you?
I am selling pixels in 100 blocks at a $1 per pixel. I am hoping that I will generate traffic because of the 20% going to charity. In addition to the donation angle, I hope to create a portal to a non profit information site.
Currently the top 5 Alexa ranked pixel sites enjoy a lot of interest from the public. How long do you think this will last, is there a long term future for pixel pages?
I agree that all the ‘pixel sites’ will be gradually slow down once the "MillionDollarHomepage" has filled up if creators of the pixel sites do not continue to be creative develop new concepts. I look forward to the next generation ‘pixel' concept sites.
Besides your own pixel page, which other pixel page do you secretly admire and why?
I admire Alex Tew's Million Dollar Homepage, because of his basic idea and follow-through. I also admire the sites by individuals who are trying to buy houses and pay off debts.
